The EOS R5 C is the most compact and lightweight Canon Cinema EOS camera, featuring an OLED viewfinder, bright articulating LCD screen and 13 user assignable buttons. A new active cooling fan enables long duration recording, while its tough magnesium alloy body ensures professional durability.
The EOS R5 C implements an active cooling system that efficiently dissipates heat from the main body and makes long duration recording at 8K resolution up to 60P possible. Options for Always On and Automatic Fan Modes, allows users to minimise potential fan noise while recording.
The EOS R5 C features a 0.5-inch high-resolution OLED viewfinder for accurate image analysis, a dot-matrix display for quickly checking camera settings / modes and a bright articulating 3.2-inch LCD monitor, for easy viewing from multiple angles during the day or night.
An extensive range of 13 assignable buttons and three digital dials are available within the EOS R5 C’s ultra-compact design. These features can be programmed via a new UI, to enable quick access to your favourite video / photo functions, such as Waveform Monitor, auto focus and high frame rate.
Weighing only 680 grams, the EOS R5 C is the most compact and lightweight Canon Cinema EOS camera, while retaining the same premium build quality and comfortable ergonomics featured in the EOS R5.
The EOS R5 C can capture incredibly captivating 8K DCI RAW video in 12-bit, while utilising the whole width of the full-frame sensor for a truly cinematic experience. Capturing four times the detail of 4K, the EOS R5 C provides outstanding 8K footage up to 30fps. Through using an external power supply the EOS R5 C offers 8K up to 60fps, opening all-new creative opportunities in post-production. The entire 8K full-frame sensor can also be used for oversampling 4K or Full HD footage, producing exceptional clarity with low noise.
Alongside the EOS R5 C’s powerful 8K capabilities, it can also capture 4K content up to 120fps for immersive slow-motion with stunning detail. While recording in this mode, the EOS R5 C maintains Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus functionality, to ensure each individual frame remains sharp. In addition, audio recording can also be enabled while recording at high frame rates.
The EOS R5 C is the first Cinema EOS camera to offer Dual Base ISO functionality. Dual Base ISO expands sensitivity and minimises noise when shooting in low light environments. Options of 800/3200 ISO are available when shooting in Canon Log 3, and 400/1600 ISO when shooting in BT.709 Wide DR, PQ and HLG. Selecting the most suitable Base ISO for a certain lighting scenario will ensure optimal dynamic range and low noise, while users can also choose ‘Auto Selection’ for the camera to intuitively switch Base ISO automatically.
A 45 Megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor captures incredible clarity, low noise and wide dynamic range at burst speeds up to 20fps, with ISO sensitivity as high as 51,200 ISO. Automatic exposure bracketing delivers consistent exposure options, while an interval timer opens the door to creative time-lapses.
The EOS R5 C shares the same architecture as the EOS R system and can therefore capture images in a variety of professional file formats, including RAW, C-RAW and JPEG. 10-bit HEIF images can also be captured with increased dynamic range and colour reproduction, thanks to utilising PQ HDR gamma and BT.2020 colour space.
The Interval Timer feature found in the EOS R5 C can be set to capture a certain number of images within a specified time. This feature is perfect for creating professional time-lapse sequences. In addition, custom image modes such as aperture / shutter priority or Auto ISO can also be set, ensuring you have full creative control when creating breathtaking time-lapse content.
Featuring the RF mount, the EOS R5 C is compatible with an extensive range of optics including cutting-edge RF lenses, as well as EF or Cinema lenses via the EF-EOS R mount adapters. Advanced 5-axis electronic IS helps to achieve smooth and stable professional footage.
Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology is renowned in the industry, as a system that professional filmmakers and photographers can rely upon. The EOS R5 C inherits an enhanced version of this system featuring Eye AF and EOS iTR AF X. This technology utilises an advanced deep-learning algorithm that recognises faces accurately, including when only one eye is visible, and will track a subject even when they look away from the camera.
The EOS R5 C features the same exclusive auto focus settings found in Cinema EOS cameras, such as Face Only and Face Priority recognition, to ensure the camera responds to changes in the scene as intended. Fine adjustments in the auto focus speed and response can also be made to achieve slow cinematic focus pulls or instant AF for fast-paced action.
Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system can also be utilised when a camera operator is using manual focus. The focus guide is an accurate and innovative tool that visually informs the operator if a subject is front or back focused. When the focus guide visual aid on the LCD screen or viewfinder becomes green, pin-sharp manual focus has been achieved.
The EOS R5 C features 12-bit internal RAW video recording with Cinema RAW Light up to 2.6Gbps. There are three Cinema RAW Light options available in the EOS R5 C, these are LT (Light), ST (Standard) and HQ (High Quality), providing greater workflow flexibility for your production needs.
A wealth of additional professional recording options are also available including, 4:2:2 10-bit formats such as Canon’s reliable XF-AVC in ALL-I or Long GOP up to 810Mbps, HEVC MP4 up to 540Mbps and 4:2:0 8-bit H.264 MP4 up to 150Mbps.
In addition to this, there are options to crop the sensor from 8K Full Frame to 5.9K Super 35mm and 3K Super 16mm formats, for compatible optical lenses and reduced data rates.
PQ and HLG internal recording formats as well as Canon Log 3 are available in the EOS R5 C to achieve exceptional dynamic range, retaining detail in both the shadows and highlights. Both PQ and HLG deliver content in HDR-ready formats, for film and television, in BT.2020 colour space, while Canon Log 3 provides the creative flexibility to grade the footage in post-production.
Dual media card slots (1x CFexpress Type B / 1x UHS-II SD) allow for sophisticated simultaneous recording options where different formats, resolutions and bit depths can be recorded to each card, to support a variety of professional workflows. Traditional 4:2:0 8-bit proxies and relay / double slot recording are also available.
The EOS R5 C is capable of outputting RAW over HDMI to compatible Atomos recorders such as the NINJA V+ for 10-bit 8K ProRes RAW recording up to 30fps. XF-AVC proxies can also be simultaneously recorded to the SD card for efficient post-production workflows.
The EOS R5 C features an extensive range of professional filmmaking tools such as a Waveform Monitor for analysing the brightness of an image from left to right, and False Colour for visually representing exposure based on a colour scale. Additional functions include true 24p DCI recording, 180-degree shutter angle, Look File support for importing 3D LUTs and timecode in/out.
First introduced in the XF605 camcorder and EOS R3, Canon’s multi-function accessory shoe provides data communication and direct power to a new range of accessories. This includes Canon’s DM-E1D stereo microphone and TASCAM’s CA-XLR2d-C audio XLR adapter, featuring professional XLR inputs with manual control, monitoring and 48V power. Existing speedlites and triggers can also be attached.
Connectivity on the EOS R5 C includes dedicated terminals for timecode in/out, 3.5mm microphone input, headphone output, micro-HDMI output, flash sync, N3-type remote and a USB-C terminal for power, charging and communication. A cable protector is included in the box to secure both the USB-C and micro-HDMI connections during shooting.
Existing EOS R system accessories such as the BG-R10 battery grip and WFT-R10 wireless file transmitter are supported by the EOS R5 C. While both accessories accommodate two battery units (LP-E6NH, LP-E6N, or LP-E6), the WFT-R10 enhances networking functionality with dual 2x2 5Ghz antennas and ethernet connectivity. Although the EOS R5 C features in-built Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, this accessory is required for using the Browser Remote and Content Transfer Mobile applications wirelessly.
The EOS R5 C merges the worlds of Cinema EOS and the EOS R system into one, offering compatibility with an extensive range of professional filmmaking, photography, and virtual reality applications, for both smartphones and personal computers. In addition to LP-E6NH/LP-E6N/LP-E6 batteries, the EOS R5 C can be powered via an external power source (required for accessing 8K recording above 30fps). Supported power sources include USB-C power from the PD-E1 adapter, as well as combined use of the DR-DE6C DC coupler and the CA-946 power adapter.
