Overview:

Timing:

This comprehensive Lightroom workshop, limited to just eight students, takes place in two parts from 10:30am to 2:30pm on Wednesday, November 6th and Wednesday, November 13th. Reid Thaler, a local photographer and Lightroom guru, will be your teacher.

Overview:

The workshop is designed for those that have some experience with Lightroom Classic (available with a subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud), or at the least, have had previous experience with image editing software programs. For the workshop, you will need to have access to Lightroom Classic. If you are brand new to Lightroom, it is recommended to attend our Lightroom Library Module class first.

World renowned photographer Ansel Adams said, “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” And with the “digital darkroom” available to anybody with a computer, crafting exquisite images has never been easier.  Taking a photograph is the first step, but like a musical score, a photograph is open to interpretation.  We’ll use Adobe Lightroom Classic to learn how to coax the most an image has to offer and craft and images where you decide how to emphasize what’s important, de-emphasize what’s trivial, and remove what doesn’t add to the image, allowing you to create emotionally evocative images that draw people in.

Lesson Breakdown:

Introduction to image optimization.  PowerPoint presentation: Monitor Calibration and Optimal Exposure. white balance and cropping.  Basic panel, tonal and presence tools.  Manual vs automatic exposure. Tone Panel. The 3 Local Adjustments: Adjustment Brush, Graduated, and Radial Filters.  Refining local adjustments with Color and Luminance masking. Hue, Saturation, and Luminance Panel (HSL).

Questions from previous session. Sharpening and Noise Reduction, Spot Removal, Lens corrections, Red Eye Removal. Creative Adjustments: Black and White, Split Toning, Film Grain, Vignetting.  Creating Panoramic and High Dynamic Range (HDR). Increasing Efficiency: Presets, Synchronize settings, Copy and Paste Develop Settings, Develop Presets, Quick Develop (in Library Module), Duplicating Previous Adjustments, Stacks, Snap Shots, Virtual Copies. Camera Calibration and creating custom camera profiles

Prerequisites:

  • Please start class with the current version of Lightroom Classic installed. (Make sure you’ve downloaded Lightroom Classic and not the program just called Lightroom, which has fewer features and requires you to upload all your images.)
  • Please know computer skills including how to create and move folders, as well as where knowing your images are on your computer or external hard drive.
  • And a notebook is always useful, too!

About Lightroom Classic:

Lightroom Classic is a comprehensive software solution for organizing, enhancing, printing, and sharing your images. The powerful toolset encourages users to move beyond image management and manipulation to creating photo books, slide shows, and website development. Come learn how photographers complete 95% of their image processing in Lightroom Classic without the need for Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or other image editing programs.

Before Class:

Lightroom Classic is available on a subscription basis which includes Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, additional tools in the smartphone version, and automatic syncing of images from your portable devices to your Lightroom Classic computer.  Don't have Lightroom Classic? You can sign up for the Creative Cloud Photography program for $10/month HERE. Lightroom is now a cloud-based version of Lightroom with fewer features, which we won't be using. Check your Adobe account for enrollment confirmation.

Cancellation Policy:

We require 72-hour notice for a full refund of the class registration fee.
