Timing:

This workshop, limited to just eight students, takes place in the Looking Glass classroom in two parts from 10:30am to 2:30pm on Tuesday, October 8th and Tuesday, October 15th.

Overview:

You may have shot exquisite images but if you can’t find them, then all is for naught. This class is ideal for those new to the Lightroom software as well those that have used Lightroom previously but need to be more efficient with downloading and organizing their images.

In this class taught by Lightroom guru Reid Thaler, you’ll discover the software’s power and ease in helping you develop an efficient workflow for downloading, culling, and organizing your images. That means you’ll have more time for shooting and less time at the computer figuring out what to do with the images you’ve already captured!

Reid designed the class for those that are completely new to Lightroom Classic, but the class will also greatly benefit those that have already used the program but need help. Be prepared to learn from a true expert and get hands-on as you follow along with your own laptop computer. The class is taught in a two-part format that is ideal for learning, practicing and returning from your first session with questions to any challenges you face. In the end, you will become a master of Lightroom’s Library module when it comes to organizing and finding your images quickly and efficiently.

Reid will help you set software and viewing preferences, and through it all you will learn organization pitfalls to avoid that will help you make the most efficient use of your time. You'll apply strategies for organizing future images and apply those approaches to organize images already on your computer.  You will learn why using “Lightroom Collections” is the key to image organization and how assigning keywords and harnessing the power of facial recognition can elevate your organization to the next level. You’ll receive handouts including a download workflow, setting preferences, the most useful keyboard shortcuts and more! We’ll also address how to automatically download images from your smartphone to your Lightroom Classic catalog.

Prerequisites:

  • Please have the current version of Lightroom Classic installed. (Make sure you’ve downloaded Lightroom Classic and not the program just called Lightroom, which has fewer features and requires you to upload all your images.)
  • Please have computer skills including how to create and move folders on your computer, as well as knowing where your images are currently saved on your computer or external hard drive.
  • Before class, please decide where you would like your images permanently stored, either on your laptop computer or desktop computer. For many, the ideal location is an external drive. Reid recommends hard drives of 2TB capacity or larger.
  • A notebook and pen is always useful, too!

About Lightroom Classic:

Lightroom Classic is a comprehensive software solution for organizing, enhancing, printing, and sharing your images. The powerful toolset encourages users to move beyond image management and manipulation to creating photo books, slide shows, and website development. Come learn how photographers complete 95% of their image processing in Lightroom Classic without the need for Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or other image editing programs.

Before Class

Lightroom Classic is available on a subscription basis which includes Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, additional tools in the smartphone version, and automatic syncing of images from your portable devices to your Lightroom Classic computer.  Don't have Lightroom Classic? You can sign up for the Creative Cloud Photography program for $10/month HERE. Lightroom is now a cloud-based version of Lightroom with fewer features, which we won't be using. Check your Adobe account for enrollment confirmation.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

We require 72-hour notice for a full refund of the class registration fee.
