PHOTOGRAPHY DOES A COMMUNITY GOOD
Looking Glass Photo & Camera in Berkeley embraces the power of photography to do good. This takes form in so many ways. Photography is communication, storytelling, documenting, preserving. Whatever it may be, photography has the power to make us smile, cry and laugh. Equally important, it has the power to bring people together. And to act. It is this latter point that Looking Glass has been leveraging as one of many ways to give back to the wonderful people of Earth. Join Looking Glass in making a difference. Become part of our photography community for good:
Help Us Fly Young Photographers to the Bay Area for Their First Photo Show
We Need Your Help! We’re currently crowdfunding a two week visit to the Bay Area for some remarkable kids in Nepal. They have been documenting every day life in their refuge camp, Camp Hope. We ran a Kickstarter campaign to tell their story and showcase some of their photos. It was this story and these photos along with our amazing customers and friends that raised over $13,000 to rebuild their school. Now we want to make their dreams come true and fly them out for a photo show of their very own (see below for more details). Will you help? Learn more on our our Generosity Campaign Page.
Attend a Photo Show to Raise Money for Rebuilding a Community’s School
We will be hosting a photo show that showcases the Kids of Camp Hope’s photographs. It’s your chance to own a photograph that is making a huge difference in kids lives. And a fun opportunity to enjoy visual storytelling. Want to stay in the loop about the show? Send us a note to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Join Our “Photo Walking for Good” Group
We explore interesting locations as a group, capturing and sharing what we see from behind the lens. What makes us a bit different is the fact that we take our fun and enjoyment from these photowalks and “Pay it Forward.” Specifically, we support and inform about a local non-profit with each walk, and it’s completely up to you if you’d like to make a donation that will go directly to the non-profit. It’s one way as a photography community that we can give back. Click here for more information.
Donate Your Old Digital Point & Shoot Cameras for Local School Children
We worked with Cal Performances on a youth art project for disadvantaged youth in Richmond. Specifically, it was an exploration of their creativity with photography as the medium. We worked with Nikon to loan 30 cameras to the project. Projects like this are important, and organizations are always looking for camera donations. Let’s be their source. Simply stop by with your functioning digital cameras that you want to donate!
Tell Your Kids About Our Bay Area Youth Photographers Club
We support and sponsor a group of young, budding photographers, ages 12-20. Stay up to date on meetings and happenings on Facebook. Click here!
